Indian Wedding Ceremonies

One of the highlights of being a wedding videographer is getting to meet and work with people from all different walks of life. Whenever we are booked for an Indian ceremony we get very excited. Indian ceremonies are filled with tradition, music, color, and happy people. All that translates to a very cool wedding film for the bride and groom. Indian ceremonies traditionally last a few days, with pre-wedding ceremonies, wedding day ceremonies (consisting of the Baraat, the Varmala and the Phere), and finally, the Vidaai. As videographers, we love this because we know there  will never be a shortage of footage for the final dvd when we are filming an Indian ceremony. Some couples do a shortened version of all this due to time constraints, but the essence of the tradition of all the different phases of an Indian Ceremony is always there. An important fact that probably gets overlooked here in the US, is that in a traditional Indian marriage, the ceremony is much more about two families being merged together than it is about celebrating a couple’s love for one another. In India, many marriages are still arranged, while here in the US the couples are just trying to stick with cultural tradititon.
